#CCC_Yellow

This month was yellow and I found a lot more yellow around our house than I thought. I did casually ask for yellow flowers for Valentine's Day. I'm not usually one to want flowers for this holiday, I prefer chocolate or gifts that don't die, but this month I wanted something yellow to take photos of. ;) And Seth always makes a happy face with his banana before eating it which I wanted to capture, so that's what he's doing with the banana. :)

Oh, and my grid got featured on the Color Chase Challenge instagram page. This was pretty exciting to me. They called it "so much yellow cuteness!" :)

4 Months - Hailey

1. Our little Hailey Bean is 4 months now! (nickname given by Seth)

2. At 4 months, Hailey weighs 15 pounds 9 ounces and is in the 79th percentile.

3. Hailey is 25 inches long and is in the 76th percentile. She's growing so well. :)

4. Because of her aversion to pacifiers (we've tried several different kinds with no luck) it was somewhat of a relief to me when she started to suck on her fingers and more recently, her thumb. It still doesn't quite soothe her to sleep or anything but she's sucking more and more on her thumb so I'm hoping she can learn to soothe herself to sleep eventually without having to nurse to sleep. She's pretty loud about it right now. She'll suck on my fingers and her fingers but at the same time she's talking and sighing and making as much noise as possible. :P

5. Because of the no pacifier thing, sleeping has been pretty rough. She needs to be nursed to sleep and then she doesn't want to leave my side. I'm usually able to lay her down for one pretty good nap in our bed, but most often after nursing her to sleep, I'll lay her down and she wakes up five minutes later. :P It's been a lot more difficult of a stage than it normally has been in the past with the others. I'm not able to get much done. Even this blog has taken forever for me to finish cuz I have to stop often. She falls asleep around 8pm every night but does the same thing as during the day and cries so much if I'm not holding her or nurse her back to sleep. I know I did this to myself, but I just don't know how to fix the problem. I can't stand letting her cry it out at all, so I give in and hold her all evening. She then sleeps next to me all night long. :P

6. She is still very much a momma's girl. She always wants to be held by me, nursing, or if I'm in the room she's staring me down as if always making sure I'm not going anywhere. I've wondered if babies can have social anxiety since occasionally we've had family get togethers and she'll burst out crying when someone even looks and smiles at her. She's getting out of the colicky stage though and there have been more happy times with her as well. She's happy with Scott holding her for a while as long as she's not hungry or tired. She's pretty good with grandma holding her as well. :)

7. She is rolling. She's rolled from tummy to back a few times but more commonly she's rolling from back to tummy oddly. :) When put down on her play mat she tends to arch her back and balances on her head and feet for quick moments which scoots her upwards and all sorts of ways and when bending she rolls onto her tummy almost accidentally. It's kind of fun. :)

8. She hates taking baths. I'm not sure if it's fear or uncomfortable, but she screams like she's terrified at first, then calms down for a bit of it and then screams towards the end as well.

9. She loves to grab her feet at this stage. I love it. She also has a funny cough laugh. It's not quite a laugh, but you can tell it is a laugh. :)

10. She still gets a bit smothered by Seth. He just loves her so much. He always wants to be sitting by her, touching her, hugging her. He gets right up into her face. I try to keep him at bay but it's difficult. She's pretty comfortable with him though. She'll reach out to him too a little. She grabs at his face and hair when he gets too close and he loves it. And Caleb is still a little jealous and wants to sit in my lap at the same time with her, which I do if I'm not nursing but he hates it when I have to put him down next to me so I can feed her. She just loves him though. She smiles at them all and loves watching them as they play together. :)

Color Chase Challenge - White

I found this Instagram/Facebook group that does this Color Chase Challenge. Each month is assigned a different color and you're supposed to go out and capture photos of that color and at the end of the month you have a beautiful grid with nine of your favorite photos. I like to participate in photo challenges and this one sounded right up my alley. :) I invited my family to do it with me. It should be fun!

January was white. It was actually a little harder than I thought. Of course Hailey makes it difficult to get out anywhere, but also it never snowed this month, so I thought I'd be able to get photos of kiddos in the snow or something and that never happened. :P My macro shot is of sugar. I thought that was pretty cool. The eggs were kind of a last minute idea. I don't feel like this grid was my best but hopefully it gets better with different colors. :)

Influenza

The day after Christmas Seth woke up with a fever. He spent that whole day sleeping. The next day Caleb, Everett and I fell ill.  And the next day Scott came down with it as well. Seth and Everett seemed to get over it pretty quickly and Claire never had any symptoms. Scott, Caleb and I though had fever, chills, body aches, sore throat, coughing and congestion. I was pretty sure it had to be the Flu cuz it was so bad. Caleb was really struggling with it so when Hailey had a fever I worried for her and decided to take her in to see if we could get her on Tamiflu. Well, it was New Year's Eve and all the offices were closed and with her fever and her being so little, they told me to take her to the ER. Fun... another ER trip for one of our kids. I still felt miserable and had to wear a mask but I brought her in and they tested her. She tested positive for Influenza type B.  Because of the flu, we spent our whole New Year's holiday watching movies and sleeping. And the kids spent their whole Christmas break quarantined at home. :P Not fun, but we got better. :)

Christmas 2019

Hailey's first Christmas. :) It was a good one and hopefully we succeeded at making it memorable for our kids. :) Again, we are suckers for traditions and our kids are starting to recognize that these are things we do every year. They are actually excited and look forward to them which makes it so fun! We've been decorating sugar cookies on Christmas Eve to leave out for Santa every year for a few years now. We also have been opening one gift before bed which they know is a set of new pajamas. Then, Scott reads the Polar Express to them and then we read the nativity for our scripture reading before bed. We enjoy these traditions and this year was no exception. :) It was a little difficult this year to participate in all our activities. Hailey is still quite needy and refuses to nap or even go down at night without me holding her so my arms are usually full nowadays. Scott is amazing though and helped kids with cookie decorating, read to them and played Santa after they went to bed while I watched from the couch, holding little miss Hailey while she slept. (spoiled you say? maybe, but she's the boss for now... :P )

Christmas was wonderful. We opened stockings and presents. Kids loved the added touch of the tv showing a fireplace fire under their stockings. :) We enjoyed opening presents and then headed up to open a couple more from our cousins and family upstairs. We played all morning and then headed down to Ken's to celebrate with his brothers. Such a fun day spent with family and the spirit of giving to remind us of the greatest gift of all - the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!
