Swimming Lessons

Summer time means swimming lesson time again. Claire did okay last summer getting used to the water but only put her face in the water maybe a handful of times. This year she got her head under the water at least a few times every day. She loved playing some new water games her teacher taught them and learned a little more about kicking and moving her arms. She still has a hard time blowing bubbles out her nose, but is doing so well despite that. :)

memory made

now that amber is beginning to enter the later stages of her pregnancy, she's begun to get really uncomfortable. in an attempt to ease some of her discomfort, she has started trying this pregnancy yoga thing we found on youtube. everett, always one for trying new things, has decided to be mommy's little training partner... :)

stewart falls hike

i wouldn't say amber and i are outdoorsy people, but we do like the outdoors in small quantities. we decided that we wanted to do a nice, family friendly hike before amber got too pregnant. so we went looking online for a good little hike. one of the top recommended local hikes was the stewart falls hike, a hike we did together back in our single days. from what we remembered, it was a short and easy little hike. time has a way of blurring memories. that, or seven years, thirty extra pounds, and two and a half kids might actually have done something to hurt our physical prowess.

we saw that the hike was actually four miles, a little farther than we remembered or wanted to hike, but we decided we needed the exercise. we brought one of those little hiking backpacks, hopefully just as a last resort if one of our kids just couldn't make it any farther and needed a quick break. we quickly discovered claire liked being carried much more than she liked walking. everett was amazing. he preferred walking himself, but he kept tripping and his poor little legs got pretty beat up, so there was times i was forced to carry both little kids as we pushed along. hiking is one thing. hiking four miles is one thing. but hiking four miles while carrying seventy extra pounds on your back is one too many things. i was pooped. and my poor, seven-months along pregnant wife! we definitely got our exercise that day.

we finally made it to the waterfall and had a quick snack and jumped on a few rocks before contemplating how to call in search & rescue to take us back to our car.

the return trip wasn't too bad. we thought up some games to play to pass the time. it was a little bit more than the small quantities of the outdoors we like, but it was a good memory we could make with our children.

34 years young

so we're a little behind in blogs, but way last month, i turned another year older. the day started with delicious krispy kreme donuts. after breakfast amber and the kids did some birthday stuff, then we headed out and about. we got a pizza for lunch then went to a park to play. it was great. we then headed back home to open some presents. the kids got me a fun winnie the pooh puzzle that we all put together over the next few days. amber got me a new blender, and i have made chocolate milkshakes pretty much every night since. :)

amber and the kids then made a delicious yellow cake with chocolate frosting with a kit kat border and peanut m&ms topping. thank you pinterest!

that night we had a bunch of my family over for a little party. we ate some chicken tacos, played some games, and ate that yummy cake. it was a fantastic day!

McClellan Campout

My sister April and her husband planned a family campout at the end of June. Most everyone was able to come so it was our big family reunion of the year. We weren't sure whether we would be able to make it until a couple days before, and we were only able to stay one night, but one night camping for me at this point in my pregnancy was enough. :) We had a lot of fun though. The kids enjoyed playing with their cousins, especially collecting flowers and rocks for their "stores". They love playing pretend...

One of my nieces put together a show for the adults that evening. It was very cute. Here are just a couple snippets from the evening. We had yummy s'mores around the campfire afterwards.

After a long night of not sleeping the greatest... (we always seem to misjudge how cold it gets at night when camping), the next day we went to a pond close by and went canoeing. I've kind of become a scaredy-cat in my old age, or maybe it's just cuz I was pregnant, but the thought of falling in that water kind of freaked me out. We all got in the canoe though and went around the pond for a little bit. Everett seemed to really like it and wanted to go around again after a short break. Claire was happy to sit on the sidelines and watch.

It was fun, but hot and kids got grumpy fast so we didn't stay much longer. We drove back to the campground, played a little bit more, packed up and headed home. It was a short trip, but it was so fun seeing all my family that was there. We missed those who weren't able to make it.

Lehi Fun Center

This summer we've been trying to use our Pass of all Passes as much as possible and have some fun as a family. We've gone to the Orem Fun Center before but decided to try out the fun center in Lehi for a little change. They had a lot of rides for the kids and we had a lot of fun playing miniature golf.
