family vacation - part four

we concluded our trip with the main reason we came down to california - for a tour of mission viejo, amber's hometown. we got to see the house she grew up in (which she says looks completely different now), as well as took a stroll around her high school. we even stopped by her elementary school, which had a fun little park the kids could enjoy. they sure do love swings.

after seeing some of amber's childhood, we hit the road and started the trip back home. we stopped in vegas once again and finished our castle trip with a great view of the castle at our hotel.

after our night stay in las vegas, we were headed home to orem the next day. it was such an enjoyable trip, one that we'll remember for a long time. too bad the kids won't remember it quite as well. i guess that's the value of a photograph - memories captured forever in time.

family vacation - part three

the next day of our trip took us down south to san diego to see seaworld! after running around from ride to ride at disneyland, it was nice to take a nice, relaxed stroll, checking out all the cool animals. while we tried to take it nice and easy, you wouldn't be able to tell it by looking at claire's hair. :)

everett especially enjoyed seaworld. he loved being able to get down, crawl around a bit, and see some colorful animals. claire (as well as us) really enjoyed not having to stand in lines in the hot sun for the majority of the day. from the animals, to the play places, to the shows, it was a fun day.

of course a day on our "castle trip" wouldn't be complete without seeing at least one castle, so while we were in san diego we made sure to stop and see the most special castle of our trip: the san diego temple. after claire and i had a dance at the castle, claire took the camera and took some pictures for us. she is definitely following in her mommy's footsteps. :)

family vacation - part two

our "castle trip" continued the next day with a trip to one of the most famous castles in the world - disneyland! this was the one claire was most excited for. she is in that stage of life where everything princess is loved and adored. so while a part of us thought it was a waste of money to take her now when she wouldn't remember it later in life, we reasoned that we'd just take lots of pictures and show her later. :) plus this was the last chance to go when they would still be free.

having the kiddos definitely limited what rides we could go on, but we think we saw all the iconic ones. the most popular destination for us was definitely the baby center, where we went again and again throughout the day to feed everett. :) claire's favorite place was definitely the fantasy faire where claire got to see aurora, ariel, and cinderella. as soon as we turned that corner and saw that first princess, claire was in heaven. she got this euphoric look on her face, closed her eyes, and slowly walked up to the princess for a hug. it was so cute.

in addition to the popular baby center and fantasy faire, we also were able to see many other rides, which i'm going!~ to list here just for my sake so i can remember them: jungle cruise, tarzan's treehouse, pirates of the caribbean, haunted mansion, peter pan's flight, king arthur carrousel, it's a small world, finding nemo submarine voyage, innoventions, buzz lightyear astro blasters, mickey's soundsational parade, and of course, sleeping beauty's castle walkthrough.

for the most part, it was so much fun. waiting in line was an issue for everett because all he wants to do these days is get down and crawl around, which we wouldn't let him do on the hot and dirty ground. naps were also a bit of an issue, but they both got quick, little naps in the stroller, which helped a lot. it was such a fun and memorable day.

family vacation - part one

so, if you recall, amber's big birthday present this year was a trip to california. as we further planned out the details of the trip, we made a subtle realization that this was going to be our "castle trip", which had claire (who is very into everything princess) super excited. our first castle of the trip was our stopover in las vegas, where we stayed at the excalibur hotel for a night. claire immediately had to go outside and dance in front of the castle. we then took a stroll down the strip before returning to our room for some sleep.

the next morning we headed to california. we checked into our hotel, got quickly settled, then headed to our next castle of the trip - sand castles! we found a nice little beach and had so much fun.

claire and everett absolutely loved playing in the sand. we caught everett several times trying to eat the sand...

amber was definitely glad to be home again. :)

the beach even had a little playground close by so we had a blast over there.

we tried to bury claire at one point, but she didn't like that idea.

the entire trip was so much fun, but i think the beach may have been our favorite part of it all, which is a little funny because it was the cheapest part of the trip too. after the beach we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep. we were going to need our strength so we could enjoy the castle that was coming tomorrow. but you'll have to wait to read all about that in our next blog. :)

Independence Day

With an upcoming vacation to plan and since Scott couldn't take more days off from work, our Fourth of July was pretty laid back. Scott brought home some donuts for breakfast. I love seeing these two kids together. Claire loves to share with Everett. It's pretty cute, but I have to watch what she gives him... she's occasionally given him things that he shouldn't be having yet, like part of her peanut butter and honey sandwich and a fruit snack.

Later that evening we took the kids out front and lit some sparklers. They both seemed to enjoy that. And in case you were wondering, my kids do wear more than their pajamas, but we had already gotten them ready for bed (and Claire likes to pick out her own pajamas now which is why they are a little mismatched). :)

He really wanted to touch the sparklers. :)

Happy Independence Day!

Birthday Weekend

Yikes... I am now 30. Crazy huh?
I had a very fun birthday. Scott gave me an early birthday present about a week before. He gave me a binder. :) This binder was really one of the best presents ever. He had planned out a family vacation for us for just 2 weeks later and the place we were headed to was... California! It had been so long since I'd been home. I don't have family there anymore but it's still where I grew up and Scott hadn't seen it so we were all pretty excited. :)

On my birthday we went out for breakfast with the kids, then I spent most of the day with my two little ones. It's hard to feel bad about being 30 when you have this face looking up at you. :)

Later that evening we had some family come over to watch the kids for us so Scott could take me out on a date. We went to the Pizza Factory and then went miniature golfing. We came home and enjoyed our icecream cake with our family. I love my family, it was a good day. :)

The next day we headed up to Ogden for some more birthday celebrating for Scott's brother and myself. Honestly it was just a good excuse for a fun family get together. :) We met up at the Ogden public pool.

Everett loved the water. He had no fear as he crawled and splashed and only got upset when I had to pick him up because he was headed for deeper water. :)

Claire loved playing with her cousins. She gets a little camera shy sometimes now too... :)

After swimming we headed to Kyle and Courtney's house for some barbeque fun. It was a nice warm day and the kids had a blast with their cousins. We all had a great time.
